Description:

The book is an account of one member of San Ildefonso Pueblo who decides to plan a revolt against the US government to recover lands taken first by the Spanish and kept by the US. He enlists the aid of the gaming tribes in the State of New Mexico and they proceed with his plan.

The book is divided into two parts. The first part deals with the takeover of Los Alamos, New Mexico by native americans. The second part deals with the consequences of the takeover.

There was an actual Pueblo revolt in 1680, which led to the Spanish being ejected from the New Mexico area. The Spanish returned and re-conquered the Pueblos, leading to the famous stand by San Ildefonso Pueblo on top of "Black Mesa" an outcropping of volcanic rock located on the reservation.

San Ildefonso Pueblo is an actual native american reservation located at the bottom of the Rio Grande Valley just east of Los Alamos New Mexico, the birthplace of the atomic bomb and about 24 miles northwest of Santa Fe.

About the Author:

The author is a member of San Ildefonso Pueblo. Because The Great Pueblo Revolt of 1996 could be construed as a "Handbook" for gaming tribes, the author's english name is not given.

Excerpt:

"What you have just seen is the opening salvo of an attack on the city of Los Alamos, New Mexico. This is Bob Woods for Channel 7 News. It is now 4:00 AM Mountain Standard Time. I am here in the city of Los Alamos, birthplace of the atomic bomb. Approximately 2 hours ago, a force of unknown number took control of Los Alamos. They got hold of two M1 Abrams tanks--one of which is at the bottom of the hill that leads to Los Alamos and the other you have seen is within the city. The armed group is holding the city hostage. At my right is David Becker. He is the reported leader of the men who have taken over the city. Mr. Becker."
