WELCOME TO THE LAND OF ENCHANTMENT! Before we embark on this journey, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Mercedes Rivera, and I am curator of my own gallery of native arts here in New Mexico. I've been working with Native America (and various other cultures) pottery for the last 15 years. Having personal contact with pueblo artists, I have acquired extensive knowledge of the magic of northern New Mexico pueblo pottery techniques. As a potter myself, I'd like to extend the opportunity to others to discover the ancient (and contemporary) art of pueblo pottery.
Here in the heart of Anasazi country, Native American potters today create their clay work in the same fashion used by their ancestors centuries ago. But you will also find artists who have taken a more contemporary approach in their artwork, while still not sacrificing tradition.
