Artists and Acequias: A Cultural and Artistic Tour of Canyon Rd and the Eastside Have you already seen the downtown but would like to find your way in one of the older and more scenic neighborhoods? Come to the home of artists, adventurers and indigenous peoples. Tour both the village and the pueblo at Taos. Visit some of the best museums in the state. On the return trip, drive the high road through small northern New Mexico villages. Visit the weavers at Chimayo and the Sanctuario known for its "miraculous" dirt. An Outpost of Civilization: Pecos National Monument See one of the lesser explored ruins near Santa Fe and learn about its importance in New Mexico history. An important pueblo and trading center, it also had more than one missionary church. The monument itself encompasses Civil War battle sites as well as the remains of Greer Garson's Forked Lightning Ranch. On the way back, stop at Arroyo Hondo an unreconstructed ruin, just outside of town. O'Keeffe Country and Beyond See the extent of history in New Mexico up near Abiquiu in O'Keeffe country. Go to an ancient Tewa ruin, visit the original church of Abiquiu, hear stories about New Mexico's most famous artist, Georgia O'Keeffe, and stop at Ghost Ranch where dinosaurs were discovered. Relax in the late afternoon at the famous hot springs in Ojo Caliente.
