THE SANTA FE ARTS COMMISSION
Santa Fe boasts a rich artistic heritage, unique in its depth, breadth and quality. For centuries the cross-fertilization of the city's Native American, Hispanic, and Anglo cultures has yielded a wealth of artists, arts organizations and superb arts products.
The Santa Fe Arts Commission (SFAC), an agency within the municipal government of the City of Santa Fe, provides leadership by and for city government in supporting arts and cultural affairs. The SFAC also recommends programs and policies that develop, sustain and promote artistic excellence in the community. Through its work the SFAC nurtures and supports Santa Fe's unparalleled artistic heritage.
The role of the Commission, which was created in 1987, is to survey and assess the needs of the arts in the Santa Fe area; to evaluate the effectiveness of legislation, policies and programs; to encourage the use of local resources for development and support of the arts; to receive grants; to advise the city on purchasing art works that will enhance municipal property; to advise the City on Lodgers’ Tax revenues designated for non-profit arts organizations; and to advise the City regarding other arts-related activities.
